Each 16 June around the world, Joyce fans undertake Bloomdsay celebrations. In Dublin, Bloom's walk around the city is re-created. In the cities of the Irish diaspora, more esoteric re-creations of Bloom's tour are undertaken, as well as various Irish street festivals. Bloomsday celebrations are globalised these days: Toronto, Philadelphia, Trieste (where Joyce wrote Ulysses), Tokyo, and Szombathely, Hungary. Szombathely was the fictional birthplace of Bloom's father, Virâg Rudolf.
